In the beginning was the word and the word was . . .

Every creation has an apparent beginning, a manifestation of an idea into some sort of form, but before that manifestation there is an energy, a vibration, a glint of that which can only be discerned by whatever is born of that impulse to create. I call that the Creative Spirit, from which all was released into being through the energy of love. And therefore, everything created was permeated with this love vibration. In this, we are part of the Creative Spirit and the Creative Spirit lives within and through us. And through us means when we create, we are continuing from the beginning.

Everything that exists is imbued with that creative vibration. This is what binds us together — that creative vibration that exists in each of us. Right now, if ever it has been otherwise, we are being challenged by divisions and adversity that threaten not to destroy us, because we are, at least the spark part of us, eternal, but to continually challenge the connection to our higher and wider self, and in that each other. And that challenge is why we are here and now — to learn through that challenge and reach toward each other to combine our energies together as they were in that beginning. And the word was . . . breathe.

In meditation, which is when we listen, as opposed to prayer, which is when we beseech, we pay attention to our breath. The inflow and the outflow. In inspiration, which notably contains reference to breathing and the spark of the creative spirit, we listen for the words we need to hear without asking. And we receive perhaps not words, but vibrations, energies that bring us into the familiar space beyond our perceived individuality. And as we inspire, as we are filled with that impetus for something larger than ourselves, we are brought to the moment when the word is . . . create.

The arts heal, both the creator and the one experiencing the creation. And right now, I think you will agree, we all need some healing. Creating moves you from your normal state of being and helps you enter a space that is filled with an energy that heals — body, mind, and spirit. It doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive. Paper and pen or crayons are a good start. I recently decided to explore watercolor painting. I have always wanted to learn how to make this sort of art and now I plan to move into time every week when I can practice using color in a new-to-me manner of exploration and experience. It doesn’t have to fulfill some idea of “fine art.” It simply needs to be an expression of a vision that is unique to you. Feel yourself embraced by the energy that begins to flow through you, creating a space through which you can step away from the mundane and into a suspended moment in time where you can discern the energy of your spirit guiding you as you create. The energy you are feeling is the love energy through which the Creative Spirit brought everything into being. That is the energy you also tap into when you create. And it is energy which manifests healing. So in creating, we offer healing to each other and to the planet. And in giving that creative offering, we are also healed, and thus, the word is . . . love.
